The Serbian State Prosecutorial Council’s (SPC) Working Group tasked with amending the Code of Ethics for prosecutors held a working meeting today to discuss the proposed amendments to the Code. This meeting took place following a recent presentation of recommendations for further improvement of the SPC’s practices and gaps in the field of ethics produced by the Council of Europe consultants.
Members of the Working Group engaged in a lively discussion about the working text, following up on the work concluded during the last working meeting and considering the input of the Council of Europe’s consultants. Of the eight ethical principles outlined in the working text, five have been discussed and agreed upon; legality, independence, impartiality, respect of the law and proportionality. The next working group meeting is foreseen for late November.
The event was held under the action “Strengthening independence and accountability of the judiciary” which is part of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II”, a co-operation initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe, which aims at assisting beneficiaries in the Western Balkans region and Turkey to comply with the Council of Europe standards and European Union acquis in the framework of the enlargement process, where relevant.
