GRETA second evaluation round visit to San Marino

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) carried out an evaluation visit to San Marino on 20-22 February 2018. The visit provided an opportunity to assess progress in the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings since the publication of the first evaluation report by GRETA on 15 September 2014.

During the visit, the GRETA delegation met Mr Nicola Renzi, State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs and Justice, Mr Franco Santi, State Secretary for Health, Equal Opportunities, Social Security and Social Affairs, and Mr Andrea Zafferani, State Secretary for Industry, Craftsmanship, Trade, Labour and Telecommunications. GRETA also held consultations with officials from the Authority for Equal Opportunities, the Commission for Equal Opportunities, the Department of Education, the Department of Labour, the Labour Inspectorate, law enforcement agencies, the Department of Agriculture and Territory, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Justice, the Health Authority, the Children’s Service, and the Anti-Violence Centre. Further, GRETA held consultations with representative of the judiciary and Members of Parliament.

The GRETA delegation held separate meetings with representatives of the San Marinese Union of Workers and the San Marinese Lawyers and Notaries Association.

In the course of the visit, the GRETA delegation visited a shelter for women and children victims of violence, run by the social co-operative “Il Millepiedi” in the Rimini region of Italy, which can accommodate victims of violence and trafficking in human beings referred from San Marino on the basis of a contract with San Marinese Institute for Social Security.

The visit was carried out by Ms Alina Braşoveanu and Mr Mihai Şerban, members of GRETA, who were accompanied by Mr David Dolidze of the Secretariat of the Convention.

Following the visit, GRETA will prepare a draft report which will be sent to the San Marinese authorities for comments. The final report will be made public after its adoption by GRETA.
