Turkish Judges and Prosecutors attend Study Visit to Belgium

During the period of 3 to 5 October 2022, representatives of the Turkish Ministry of Justice and judges and prosecutors attended a tailored programme on combatting financing of terrorism in Belgium. The Delegation was headed by the Director General of Criminal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, Mr Ali Öztürkmen.

The Turkish Delegation had opportunity to exchange with the representatives of Belgian institutions such as The Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (CUTA), Central Anti-Terrorist Unit of the Federal Police (DJSOC/Terro), Federal Prosecutor’s Office, Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (CTIF), Judicial Academy of Belgium and the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO).

The study visit enabled participants to hear about good practices concerning coordinated actions by Belgium authorities, as well as challenges that both Belgium and Türkiye are facing in relation to combatting financing of terrorism. Comprehensive presentation on judicial training programmes, involving also topics in criminal field was presented to the participants. Finally, it increased opportunities for future bilateral investigative and judicial cooperation among authorities in transborder fight of the financing of terrorism, including mutual legal assistance and trainings in criminal field.

This activity was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations”.
