First Steering Committee Meeting, 4 May 2016, Ankara

 

On 4 May 2016 the first meeting of the Steering Committee of the project on “Strengthening the Judicial Ethics in Turkey” was held in Ankara. The members of the Steering Committee are the representatives of the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors, the Turkish Justice Academy, the Ministry of Justice, the Constitutional Court, the Court of Cassation, the Council of State, the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, Council of Europe Secretariat; the Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry Under Secretariat of Treasury Central Finance and Contracts Unit (CFCU).

The main objective of the meeting was to overview the work conducted in the inception phase and to discuss the further stages and steps of the implementation. The Project team presented the overview and the status of the implementation of inception activities. The discussion was also complemented by The Council of Europe consultants contributed to discussion with the overview of the current situation with regard to the development of the judicial codes in the Council of Europe member States. The consultants also presented the methodology for baseline study which would assist the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors to measure the impact of the introduction of a code of ethics.

The members of the Steering Committee agreed to hold the next meeting in October 2016.
