3rd Steering Committee Meeting Held Online: The EU-CoE Joint Project on Improving the Effectiveness of the Administrative Judiciary and Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of the Council of State

The 3rd Project Steering Committee Meeting was held online on 19 June 2020, with the participation of representatives from the Council of State, the Council of Judges and Prosecutors, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Directorate for EU Affairs), Ankara Regional Administrative Court (RAC), the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (UTBA), the Ombudsman Institution, the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, the Central Finance and Contracts Unit and the Council of Europe.

The participants reviewed the progress made under the project for the period of December 2019 to June 2020. They validated the next workplan and discussed the Covid-19 Pandemic challenges faced during the confinement period.The measures taken to adapt to such situation, including desk-top work, on-line meetings and possible modifications in the Project were also discussed.

The meeting was very constructive; participants engaged in the Q&A session that followed the presentation made by the Project team addressing a number of topics, from strenghthened cooperation for sharing their institutional studies and tools, to the best practices and stakeholder commitments for effective implementation of the  Project.

 

The next SCM is scheduled to take place in December 2020.         

 

The Joint Project on Improving the Effectiveness of the Administrative Judiciary and Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of the Council of State is co-funded by the European Union, the Council of Europe and Republic of Turkey, and implemented by the Council of Europe. The Turkish Ministry of Justice - Directorate General for Legal Affairs is the end beneficiary of the Project.
