European Institute of Cultural Routes: Board of Directors meeting

On 4 February 2021, the Board of Directors of the European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR) held its Annual General Assembly and Board meeting at the Cultural Centre of Neumünster Abbey in Luxembourg.

Mr. Christian BIEVER, EICR President; Ms. Barbara ZECHES, Vice-President and Councellor to the ministry of Culture of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, Ms. Danièle KOHN-STOFFELS, Government advisor for the ministry of Culture of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg; Mr. Robert PHILIPPART, Unesco Site Manager of the ministry of Culture of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg and Mr. Claude HALSDORF, representative of the General Direction of Tourism of the ministry of Economy of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg attended the meeting on site. Ms. Birgitta RINGBECK, Chair of the Governing Board of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe and Head of the Coordination Office for World Heritage (Federal Foreign Office of Germany); Mr. Eladio FERNÁNDEZ-GALIANO, Special advisor for the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme and Mr. Matjaz GRUDEN, Director of Democratic Participation of the Council of Europe joined the meeting via online conference. Stefano DOMINIONI, Director, represented the Secretariat of the European Institute of Cultural Routes.

Among the topics discussed, Board members presented the report of the activities carried out by the EICR in 2020, many of which had to take place online due to the Covid-19 crisis. The Board members also discussed the Cultural Routes Certification Cycle 2021-2022 with 16 new candiate Routes and the 2021 activity calendar. The Budget of the EICR continued to grow in 2021 thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR) is the technical agency of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Programme set up in 1998 as part of a political agreement between the Council of Europe and the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg (ministry of Culture). It assists the EPA on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe in the evaluation cycles of certified Cultural Routes and candidate networks to the "Cultural Route of the Council of Europe" certification.
