Alvar Aalto Route: Celebrating the certification as “Cultural Route of the Council of Europe”

On 17 November, the “Alvar Aalto Route 20th Century Architecture and Design network gathered in Jyväskylä, Finland and celebrated the certification as “Cultural Route of the Council of Europe”, that was awarded in April 2021 at the meeting of the Governing Board of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA).

The occasion marked the presentation of the certification awarded by the Council of Europe to the President of the Cultural Route on Aalto’s architecture and design heritage (Aallon arkkitehtuuri- ja muotoiluperinnön matkailureitti ry) association, Heli LEINONKOSKI. The certification was presented by Director Minna KARVONEN from the Ministry of Education and Culture Finland and Project Manager Emma HARJU from the Finnish Heritage Agency as representatives of the EPA on Cultural Routes. Mr. Stefano DOMINIONI, Executive Secretary of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes and Director of the European Institute of Cultural Routes gave a welcoming speech.

Alvar Aalto Route and its online presence have been developed in collaboration with Finnish and international Aalto sites and tourism operators since 2017. The Cultural Route spans more than 60 architectural sites in 27 cities in five different countries – Finland, Germany, Estonia, Italy, and France. The website is available in Finnish, English, Russian, Japanese and German.
