Meeting of Congress Committees: Governance, Current Affairs and Monitoring

The Governance, Current Affairs and Monitoring Committees held their meetings respectively on 15, 16 and 17 September 2020 online (videoconference). On the agenda were several debates on the challenges of major crises for European local and regional authorities. This included examining their consequences for the protection of the European Charter of Local Self-Government, local and regional elections, multi-level governance and the protection of minorities.

The Governance Committee examined reports for approval on the development of urban-rural interplay and on the status of capital cities, as well as draft reports on home sharing platforms and territorial solidarity.

The Current Affairs Committee held a debate on the current situation of LGBT+ persons in Europe. It examined reports for approval on youth work and on cultural heritage management for local and regional development.

The Monitoring Committee examined reports for adoption on the situation of local and regional democracy in Austria and Ukraine. The situation of the administrative and territorial reform in Latvia was also discussed. In addition, the 2nd volume of the Human Rights Handbook on Social Rights at Local and Regional Levels was presented with a view to its adoption.
