Zurück Governance Committee meeting

Governance Committee meeting

The Governance Committee met in Strasbourg (France) on 29 October, during the 37th Congress Session.

The Committee examined several reports in preparation. Rapporteur Martin Fodor (United Kingdom, ILDG) presented a report entitled “Smart cities: democratic and inclusive cities” on the importance of smart cities and the way they can be implemented across Europe, and invited Congress members to share their experience in this regard. Another report on “Home sharing platforms, challenges and opportunities for municipalities” was presented by Robert Gruman (Romania, EPP/CCE), rapporteur and president of the Committee. Carlos Villaro Larsen, Secretary General of the European Holiday Home Association (EHHA), also intervened on this matter, which is a pressing issue for many European cities.

The development of the interaction between urban and rural areas, and in particular the valorisation of the latter to face the depopulation issue, was also on the agenda, with a report being prepared by co-rapporteurs Wilma Delissen Van Tongerlo (Netherlands, ILDG) and Matija Kovac (Serbia, PPE/CCE). The topic of the future of the municipal councillor, a role that is facing serious challenges was the subject of another report presented by Ebrahim Adia (United Kingdom, SOC).

The Committee also approved the terms of reference concerning the preparation of a report about territorial solidarity and territorial justice.

The next meeting of the Governance Committee will take place on 17 March 2020 in Strasbourg, during the 38th Congress Session.
