In the framework of the French Presidency of the Committee of Ministers and of the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe, the ambassadors of the organisation’s 47 member countries participate in a commemorative meeting, which will also be attended by Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General elect.

After the official photo, Roland Ries, Mayor of Strasbourg, Thorbjørn Jagland, Council of Europe Secretary General, and Ambassador Jean-Baptiste Mattéi, Permanent Representative of France to the Organisation, will address the participants (10:30-11:00 a.m.).

The event will be an opportunity to reproduce the room and the atmosphere in which the Committee of Ministers’ first meeting was held in Strasbourg City Hall (11:00-11:15 a.m.).

A film and a book of personal accounts of the history of the Council of Europe, “Europe: a human enterprise” will be presented (11:15-11:45 a.m.) followed by a ceremony for the award of Strasbourg City Medal to Mr Jagland (11:45-12:00 a.m.)

An exhibition entitled “Europe 1949 : l’Histoire s’écrit à Strasbourg ”, will also be staged in City Hall, accompanied by the projection of a nine-minute historic film. It will be open to the public on 21 and 22 September, as a highlight of the European Heritage Days.
