Ministers of education and high-level officials from 43 member states of the Council of Europe will gather for the 26th session of the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education. The conference will provide a forum for decision makers to share experiences on the role of education in securing democracy.
The highlights include the adoption of the Council of Europe Education Strategy 2030 “Learners First: Education for Today’s and Tomorrow’s Democratic Societies”, the initiation of the European Space for Citizenship Education, and the launch of the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education in 2025.
The conference will be opened by Deputy Secretary General Bjorn Berge and Minister for Education and Science of Latvia Anda Čakša (28 September, 3pm). Further key addresses will be delivered by French Minister of National Education and Youth Gabriel Attal, Minister of Education of Slovenia Darjo Felda and UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Education Stefania Giannini.
Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić will deliver the closing address (29 September, 3pm).
