Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland today strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in South-Eastern Turkey this morning:

"I want to convey my deepest condolences to the families of the 26 Turkish soldiers who were killed in a PKK attack on military installations in Hakkari today. I also want to express our solidarity with the people of Turkey who have been suffering from terrorist violence for decades. I strongly agree with Prime Minister Erdogan who said that the only effective antidote against terrorism is more democracy and more human rights", said Thorbjørn Jagland. (more ...)

Konstyantyn Gryshchenko, Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), today issued the following joint statement:

“We are outraged by the terrorist attacks in south-east Turkey, which have resulted in the deaths of at least 26 Turkish soldiers. We condemn in the strongest terms the authors of these horrendous acts, as well as yesterday’s attack on police officers. Terrorists will never achieve their ends through violence and bloodshed. They do not defend ideas, they seek only to propagate hatred and barbarity. Their acts are a crime against us all.” (more...)
