Strasbourg, 14.02.2013 – In order to lay the foundations for a renewed anti-poverty strategy, the Council of Europe, in partnership with the European Commission, is holding a conference in Strasbourg on 21 and 22 February on the theme of “Poverty and Inequality in Societies of Human Rights: the paradox of democracies”.
Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and László Andor, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, will be opening the conference at 9 a.m. on Thursday 21 February in the Hemicycle in the Palais de l’Europe.
The conference is being held in order to:
- analyse the current situation and identify the obstacles impeding efforts to combat poverty and inequalities;
- make practical proposals for progress, taking account of the need to listen to every voice and to make better use of, and share, resources;
- exchange and share experience, knowledge and practices, paving the way for innovative action. (more…)
