Le Président de l’APCE se félicite de l’attribution du prix Nobel de la paix à l’UE

PACE President  Jean-Claude Mignon this morning welcomed the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the European Union (EU).

“I welcome the Nobel Committee’s decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the EU for its contribution to the promotion of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe.

The Council of Europe, which was already in existence when the EU was created in 1957, has been working since 1949 to safeguard these same principles throughout our continent. With its 47 member states it promotes democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Greater Europe, while constantly ensuring greater synergy with Brussels in a process of co-operation that avoids duplication of effort.

In acknowledging the relevance of the EU’s mission, the Nobel Committee has today sent a strong and clear message of encouragement to all those who strive tirelessly to ensure that our continent remains an area of peace, stability and prosperity.”
