Council of Europe on terrorist attack in Turkey

Strasbourg, 13 May, 2013 - Following the car bombings which caused the death of over forty persons in the Turkish city of Reyhanlı, near the Syrian border, Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland sent a message of condolences to Turkish authorities and people, in which he assured them of the Organisation’s support and solidarity.

 

Jean-Claude Mignon, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), speaking on the eve of an official visit to Turkey, also expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims. He said: “I also express my support for the Turkish authorities, and in particular Foreign Affairs Minister Davutoglu, who has said that nobody will be able to sabotage peace in his country. The perpetrators of these explosions tried to spread panic and destabilise the region. They will not succeed”. (more…)
