The Russian Federation is currently implementing digital terrestrial television in the framework of two important Federal programmes. 4 phases of transition by region are planned. The Implementation of the first phase, which began with the Far East regions and southern Siberia, started in 2010, and has now been completed successfully. The deadline for the analogue switch off is set for 2015.
In the report edited by J'Son & Partners and published today, the Euroepan Audiovisual Observatory stresses that the digitisation of television progresses on the various platforms (terrestrial, cable, satellite IPTV and mobile) and that this progress aids the development of a pay-TV market. Even if the development of VoD is slower than expected, the number of services available is growing.
Set up in December 1992, the European Audiovisual Observatory's mission is to gather and distribute information on the audiovisual industry in Europe. The Observatory is a European public service body comprised of 37 member states and the European Union, represented by the European Commission. It operates within the legal framework of the Council of Europe.
