Back A virtual celebration of Europe’s heritage

A virtual celebration of Europe’s heritage

Thousands of cultural sites are preparing to open their virtual doors for the first time ever as the Council of Europe and the European Union once more join forces to celebrate the annual Heritage Days.

Held since 1985, the Days give visitors a chance to see inside places of historical and cultural interest not normally open to the public. But restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic have given national teams the creative challenge of bringing the rich resource online, building a digital universe in the form of video and photo galleries, virtual tours, podcasts, blogs, webinars and other online events.

This year’s theme – culture and education – covers topics ranging from how Latin still shapes our everyday life to how digital culture has been harnessed for artistic expression during the pandemic. The Days run until the end of October. News about events is available here and via national authorities.
