On 18-19 June 2022 the annual meeting of the Chief Advisors of the Ministry of Health was organized jointly by the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan within the framework of the CoE Project on ‘’Protection of Human Rights in Biomedicine’’ and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia. The meeting was dedicated to the discussion of the strategy, policy priorities and latest legislative reforms in the field of healthcare which are in line with the international human rights standards and principles enshrined in the Council of Europe’s Oviedo Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine. The meeting also aimed at raising awareness and strengthen the capacities of healthcare professionals on the ethical rules for healthcare professionals developed by the expertise and technical support of the Council of Europe and adopted by the RA Government on 17 February 2022 by 182-N decision.

The event was opened by the welcoming speeches given by Ms Anahit Avanesyan, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Armenia and Ms Martina Schmidt, the Head of Council of Europe Office in Yerevan. They highlighted the successful collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan and attached the importance on the continuation of the cooperation to improve the protection of human rights in the field of healthcare and to strengthen the resilience of healthcare systems.

Keynote speeches and presentations were given on the new strategy and policy priorities of the Ministry of Health, continuous professional development of healthcare professionals, introduction of the system of e-Health, ethical rules for healthcare professionals, the reforms in the field of emergency ambulance services, new list of medical specialties and etc.. The presentations were followed by discussions with very active involvement of Chief Advisors.

The annual meeting of Chief Advisors was organised under the framework of the Council of Europe’s Project on ”Protection of Human Rights in Biomedicine’’’ in Armenia.
