Is it possible to harness the power of internet and social media to encourage young people to share their hopes and vision for the future? And how to make sure that these ideas are really heard by policy-makers? 

It's all about Freedom, Philippines

Supported by Friedrich Naumann Foundation

The initiative targets Filipino youth and activists in - and potential supporters of - political parties and NGOs. The campaign capitalises on programs that generate participation, connote sustainability and trigger ripple effects. In addition, they aim to foster debate on different issues related to the concept of freedom, identify social and legislative restraints to freedom, and develop and promote policies to enhance political and economic freedom.

Presenters

Ms Minerva SALAO, Communications Officer at Friedrich Naumann Foundation Philippines 

Minnie Salao works closely with the FNF Philippines Country Director in expanding and promoting the "It's All About Freedom" campaign. She handles communications work including video production and writing press releases. Minnie designs training programs on strategic planning and social media. She is also in charge of project and budget planning for the Foundation's activities with local partners, liaising with government officials and NGOs.


Mr Julius MAATEN, Head of Friedrich Naumann Foundation Philippines 

Julius Maaten was a member of the European Parliament before he moved to Manila to head FNF Philippines. He is responsible for the democracy promotion projects of the Foundation in the Philippines and for their regional projects in South East Asia regarding human rights and economic freedoms. He took the initiative for the "It's All About Freedom" campaign which includes an annual Freedom Speech, activities and training projects against corruption and for local financial transparency and for free and fair elections, a Freedom Run, audio-visual presentations and the issuing of Noel Cabangon's song Ako'y Malaya (I Am Free).


Questionnez Vos Elus, FACEP, France

FACEP is a French non-profit association created in October 2012, whose aim is to reinforce civic education & participation, in particular through the use of information technology and communication. The first project of the association was to implement in May 2013 questionnezvoselus.org, a platform enabling French citizens to question elected people and candidates to elections. The goal of this initiative is to create trust between citizens & their elected people through more transparency, empowerment & accountability. Specific programs will be developed to help young citizens better understand local, national and European institutions.

Mr Pascal DERVILLE, France, Questionnez Vos Elus, FACEP

A graduate of HEC, France's leading business school, Pascal Derville is the founder and president of FACEP (French Association for Civic Education & Participation), created in October 2012. FACEP's aim is to foster civic education and citizens' participation in society through innovative platforms and applications. Its first project is the platform "Questionnez Vos Elus" (Ask The Elected), that went online last May 28th. Questionnez Vos Elus wants to inform citizens about the role of different institutions and create a link between citizens and the people they elected, as well as mobilizing them on issues they care about.

Rob GIRLING, USA, founder of Artefact

Rob is one of the two founders of Artefact, an award winning technology focused product design consultancy in Seattle WA, USA. Rob studied at the Royal College of Art in London, and his career started as a designer for Apple, and has continued through Microsoft, Sony and IDEO. Artefact helps forward-thinking businesses and organizations around the world with design, research and development.  Rob aims to make products that influence behavior for a preferable future,  and is engaged with the Knight Foundation and University of Washington on the creation of a next generation online political discourse tool called Civic IQ.


Mr Moussa LARABA, Algeria, Former Member of the Constitutional Council

Moussa Laraba is Deputy Secretary General  of the Conference of African Constitutional Courts since Mai 2011. He has served as a judge at the Algerian Constitutional Court from 2004 until 2011. From 1998 until 2004 he was Secretary General of the Constitutional Council in Algeria. Before that, Laraba had the position of Director of Documentation at the Constitutional Council.

Mr Igor KOLMAN, Member of Parliament, Croatia, Third Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Social   Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe         

Igor Kolman has been a member of the Croatian Parliament since December 2011 as one of the youngest MPs of the current term. He is a member of several committees - on foreign affairs, European affairs and education, science and culture. Mr. Kolman also very actively represents Croatian Parliament in the Parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe where he is a member of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development. He holds a degree in Political science, has worked as a journalist, was press officer for his party (HNS – liberal democrats) and now holds the position of Political spokesman.
