“JustSayYes” – Let people know you are a donor – this is the slogan of the 2021 edition of the European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation, which aims at raising awareness about organ, tissue and cell donation and the importance for people to make their wishes known to their loved ones.
On this occasion, the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM) of the Council of Europe is leading an online campaign (#JustSayYesEODD).
One single donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and save or improve more than 100 lives through tissue donation! In 2020, 35 529 organ transplants were performed in Europe, and while 43 183 new patients were added to a waiting list. This clearly shows that there is a lack of available organs (see Transplant Newsletter 2021).
