Västerås is a city in central Sweeden, located on the shore of Lake Mälaren in the province Västmanland, some 100 km west of Stockholm. The city has a population of 137,200 inhabitants.

Non-nationals make up 6.86% of Västerås’s total inhabitants, 17.8% of the city’s population are foreign-born. Second generation migrants make up 6.83% of the city’s population. The largest minority groups are people from Finland (5.18%); Irak- (3.56%); Iran (1.39%); Lebanon and Turkey.
