Back Deputy Secretary General addresses the IOC Founding Working Group in Lausanne

Lausanne (Switzerland) ,

Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni attended the fourth meeting of the Founding Working Group (FWG) hosted by the International Olympic Committee on the fight against irregular and illegal betting in sport, together with representatives of the sports world, governments, international organisations and betting operators.

The Deputy Secretary General's speech highlighted the good co-operation which has been built between the IOC and the Council of Europe on the subject of the manipulation of sports competitions, and the necessity to involve all stakeholders in the Council's process to draft an international convention on the subject. The issue of match-fixing was acknowledged as being an international phenomenon and the FWG subsequently fully supported the involvement of countries beyond Europe in the negotiation process.

The FWG's final recommendations on the fight against irregular and illegal betting can be read here.
