Traineeship outside the framework of the official programme and study visits at the Council of Europe

The Council of Europe offers two other possibilities for (non remunerated) traineeships outside the framework of the official programme in its Secretariat.

Traineeships outside the framework of the official programme

Traineeships outside the framework of the official programme are intended for individuals who, at the time of lodging their application:

    1. have attended a university or an equivalent establishment for at least three years (six semesters) and who wish to specialise in a specific field related to the activities of the Council of Europe;
    2. are expected to complete a traineeship as part of their training course or who already hold a degree and are required to complete a traineeship in order to qualify for employment.

The selection of trainees outside the framework of the official programme is made from among nationals of the Council of Europe member states. Exceptions can nevertheless be made for nationals of non-member states where there is a special interest in the Organisation’s activities.

A traineeship outside the framework of the official programme in principle lasts between three weeks to two months.

Applicants wishing to apply for these types of traineeships should send their request directly to the departments of their choice according to their field of specialisation via the "Contact us" link to be found in the respective pages of the departments. The Directorates will consult the applications and inform the applicant accordingly. The terms and conditions of the traineeship are to be defined between the Directorate and the trainee.

Study visits

Study visits have the purpose of enabling persons who are studying a subject related to the activities of the Council of Europe to extend their study by consulting documents or through contact with Council of Europe staff.
The maximum duration of study visits is one month.
Applicants for study visits must be aged 18 or over at the beginning of the placement.
Anyone wishing to accomplish a study visit should send their application (curriculum vitae and letter of motivation) directly to the departments of their choice.
The contacted Directorate will inform all applicants of the outcome of their applications.
