EATING AT SCHOOLS – MAKING HEALTHY CHOICES

The Council of Europe organised with the World Health Organization a Forum on nutrition in schools which was held in Strasbourg on 20 and 21 November 2003.

The Forum was designed to promote balanced school meals as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle by encouraging co-operation between those responsible for meals and those involved in nutrition so as to ensure that children eat healthily in pleasant surroundings at school. The Forum considered different European approaches to school meals and nutrition and put forward proposals for follow-up activities.

The Forum catered for those concerned by meals and nutrition in schools, i.e. pupils, parents, teachers, head teachers, mass caterers, specialised health personnel (doctors, nutritionists), administrative authorities and politicians.
