Assistance programmes
Since 1991, co-operation has been undertaken with central and eastern European member and non-member States, with the emphasis on:
Reform of legislation, formulation of precise criteria for the definition of various disabilities, and implementation of a comprehensive policy for integration of people with disabilities;
Helping the countries concerned to acquire the independent scientific, technological and administrative capacity needed to develop rehabilitation centres – including centres for the manufacture, assembly and fitting of protheses and orthoses;
Helping people with disabilities to become independent at school, at home and in the community.
