11 Temporary employment opportunities

The Council of Europe employs temporary staff for short-term contracts which can last from a few days up to a maximum of 6 months in any calendar year. These temporary employment needs generally occur due to long term leave or exceptional increased work load.

Who can apply:

- Nationals of one of the Council of Europe's member states.
- Persons with the qualifications and experience detailed for the profile sought.
- Persons with a very good knowledge of one of the Council of Europe's official languages (English and French) and good knowledge of the other

The main profiles sought for this kind of vacancy are:

Administrative Assistants:

Administrative Assistants ensure professional assistance to programmes, projects and/or activities in a number of technical or work fields (for example finance, legal affairs, ICT, communication, scientific assistance) in accordance with procedures, guidelines and priorities and with a concern for quality, efficiency and accuracy.

Candidates must have a general education to a standard equivalent to a full course of secondary education, preferably beyond (university degree an advantage) and/or appropriate professional experience. They must have a broad insight into several technical or work fields; have proven knowledge of methods, systems, and tools in a specific field as well as a broad knowledge of the activities and procedures of the Council of Europe.

They must have good computer skills in standard tools in office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, presentation software, outlook, internet/intranet publication) including specific software, and be capable of planning and work organisation, information-seeking, analytical thinking and problem-solving.

Excellent knowledge of one official language (English or French) and good knowledge of the other (in oral and written communication) is essential, with knowledge of other European languages an advantage.

Assistants:

Assistants provide support to a supervisor, work unit, team, programme or project in a variety of technical or work fields (eg secretarial, accounting, IT/web, archiving/documentation, proof reading, scientific) in compliance with general guidelines and priorities and with a concern for quality, efficiency and accuracy.

These persons must have the equivalent to a full course of secondary education, followed by a vocational qualification in their field (e.g. Higher National Diploma/HND or NVQ level 4 in the United Kingdom or an equivalent qualification obtained in other countries) as well as sound professional expertise and understanding of the activities and procedures of the Council of Europe.

They must have good computer skills in standard tools in office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, presentation software, outlook, internet/intranet publications) and be capable of planning and work organisation, information seeking and problem-solving.

Excellent knowledge of one official language (English or French) and good knowledge of the other (in oral and written communication) is essential, with knowledge of other European languages an advantage.

Technical Services Personnel:

Technical Services Personnel perform various duties (service and support duties; reception and security duties; mail and document distribution; chauffeur duties; technical or maintenance work) in compliance with guidelines and priorities and with a concern for quality, efficiency and security.

These persons must have appropriate qualifications in their field of expertise and/or proven professional experience. They must have the ability to use computer facilities and be able to plan and organise their work as well as analyse and solve problems.

Good knowledge of one of the official languages (French) and passive knowledge of the other (English) is necessary, with knowledge of other European languages an advantage.
