GRETA’s first evaluation visit to San Marino
16 December 2013 - A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) carried out an evaluation visit to San Marino from 4 to 6 December 2013. The visit was organised in the context of the first round of evaluation of the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.
During the visit, the GRETA delegation met the Minister of External Affairs, Mr Pasquale Valentini, as well as officials from the Ministries of External Affairs, Labour, Industry and Agriculture and representatives of law enforcement agencies. Meetings were also held with the Authority for Equal Opportunities, the Commission for Equal Opportunities, the Health Authority, the Minors’ Service and judges. Further, the GRETA delegation met members of the San Marinese Parliament (Consiglio Grande e Generale).
The GRETA delegation held separate meetings with representatives of civil society, trade unions and the Bar Association.
In the course of the visit, the GRETA delegation visited a state-run counselling centre for women victims of violence.
The visit was carried out by Ms Gulnara Shahinian and Mr Mihai Şerban, members of GRETA, who were accompanied by Ms Claudia Lam of the Secretariat of the Convention.
On the basis of the information gathered during the visit and the reply from the San Marinese authorities to GRETA’s questionnaire, GRETA will prepare a draft report containing an analysis of the implementation of the Convention by San Marino and suggestions for further action. This draft report will be transmitted to the San Marinese authorities for comments, which will be taken into account by GRETA when establishing its final report. GRETA’s final report will be made public, together with eventual comments by the San Marinese authorities.
