The complainant organisation alleges that Cyprus does not comply with its obligations under Article 17 (the right of mothers and children to social and economic protection) of the European Social Charter because of the lack of explicit prohibition of all corporal punishment of children, in the family, schools and other settings, and because Cyprus has failed to act with due diligence to eliminate such punishment in practice.
On 2 July 2013 the European Committee of Social Rights declared the complaint admissible.
