Biography
Cédric VISART de BOCARME

Born at Schaerbeek (Belgium), in 1953.

In 1977, Mr VISART DE BOCARME took up his duties as counsel at the Namur Bar.

In 1983, Mr VISART DE BOCARME was appointed Deputy Crown Prosecutor at the court of first instance in Charleroi (economic and financial section), and then at the
court of first instance in Namur (1985).

From 1986 to 1987, Mr VISART DE BOCARME was delegated by the Principal Crown Prosecutor at the Liège Court of Appeal to work in the prosecution service at the sessions of the Namur and Luxembourg assize courts respectively.

In 1988, Mr VISART DE BOCARME was delegated to the Private Office of the Minister of Justice to be responsible for civil and commercial law matters.

In 1990, Mr VISART DE BOCARME was appointed Crown Prosecutor at the court of first instance in Namur.

In 1995, Mr VISART DE BOCARME took up his duties as Deputy Head of the Private Office of the Minister of Justice, responsible for criminal law, criminal procedure and police matters and international relations. In 1997, he was appointed Head of the Private Office.

From 1998 to 1999, Mr VISART DE BOCARME was placed in charge of evaluation and identification of the judicial co-operation programmes of the Ministry for Development Co-operation with Rwanda (making official journeys to Rwanda in September 1998 and November 1999), while acting as French-speaking secretary and member of the bureau of the Council of Crown Prosecutors.

During the 1990s, Mr VISART DE BOCARME was several times a member of the IT committee of the Ministry of Justice, and in 2001 he became a member of the steering committee of the PheniVISART de BOCARME judicial IT reform project.

From 2000 to 2003, he was appointed as a Council of Europe expert to organise seminars on the public prosecution service in East European countries (Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia), and as a European Union expert on the training of law officers and investigating judges in Burkina Faso (May 2003).

Mr VISART DE BOCARME was appointed Principal Crown Prosecutor at the Liège Court of Appeal.

Mr VISART DE BOCARME represented the Belgian public prosecution service at the Eurojustice conferences in 2005 (Lisbon), 2006 (Oslo) and 2007 (Portoroz). He also chaired the College of Principal Crown Prosecutors (2006-2007 and 2009-2010).
