Study Visit to Slovenia for the National Preventive Mechanism of Georgia...

Within the framework of the Joint Programme of the European Union and Council of Europe “Human Rights in Prisons and Other Closed Institutions”, a study visit to Slovenia for staff of the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia will take place on 22-24 October 2013.

The visit will focus on sharing experiences and good practices in the monitoring of psychiatric institutions and prisons. The three-day programme will include meetings with the staff of the Slovenian NPM, representatives of the Ministry of Healthcare and the Penitentiary Department of Slovenia, as well as visits to prisons, psychiatric institutions and a special social care institution.

The study visit aims to strengthen the capacity of the Georgian NPM by providing them with additional knowledge on and skills in monitoring the human rights situation in so-called closed institutions, such as prisons and psychiatric institutions.
