Round Table on Prison Healthcare Reform

 

On 3 December, a round table on the reform of healthcare in prisons will take place at the hotel “Old Tbilisi” in Tbilisi. The Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance, Minister of Healthcare, Labour and Social Affairs and Minister of Justice will discuss the implementation of the prison healthcare strategy and action plan with the Public Defender, the EU’s Special Adviser on Legal and Constitutional Reform and Human Rights in Georgia, Mr Thomas Hammarberg, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, Ms Caterina Bolognese, local experts and civil society representatives.

 

The round table will highlight the main outcomes of the prison healthcare strategy and action plan, as well as the challenges in the implementation of this strategy and action plan. In addition, video clips on the prevention of various illnesses in prisons as well as video lessons on prison healthcare for prison staff, produced within the framework of the joint programme of the European Union and Council of Europe “Human Rights in Prisons and Other Closed Institutions”, will be presented at the round table.

 

The round table is organised with support of the joint programme of the European Union and Council of Europe “Human Rights in Prisons and Other Closed Institutions”.
