Local and Regional Democracy and Good Governance

Committee of Experts on Transfrontier Co-operation

Former subcommittee

Composed of governmental experts from Council of Europe member states, the Committee meets twice a year to discuss how to promote effective co-operation between local and regional authorities on either side of a national border.

Other topical focal points have been good practices in transfrontier co-operation, and how to reduce any obstacles that may arise when local and regional authorities co-operate across borders. The Committee’s responsibilities are numerous, and include monitoring how Council of Europe legal instruments in transfrontier co-operation are implemented in member states, facilitating the exchange of member states’ experience in transfrontier co-operation, particularly in good practice, and making proposals at intergovernmental level to encourage and facilitate transfrontier co-operation.
