Local Government in Critical Times:
Policies for Crisis, Recovery and a Sustainable Future” |
Ministers agreed that governments must take
responsibility to mitigate, counter, and overcome the impact of
the economic crisis, all the more so because it has potentially
wide destructive effects on social cohesion and risks
exacerbating societal tensions. There is a widespread
recognition of the need for improvements in governance and in
the management of public expenditure, for increasing efficiency
across the whole public sector, and for greater collaboration
between all stakeholders. This publication is meant to be an
important tool for central governments, ministries of local
government and ministries of finance, local governments and
their associations as well as for NGOs
