Ensuring sufficient financial resources for local authority tasks

For local and regional authorities to be able to carry out their public duties effectively, it is essential that they have at their disposal the level of financial resources to match their responsibilities.

One of the challenges is therefore to find an optimum structure of income sources which enable local and regional authorities to offer local citizens a set of good and efficiently run local services, such as education, local transport, refuse collection, etc.

It means ensuring that authorities have a high degree of freedom in managing their own finance, yet work transparently, with a high degree of accountability. Have a look at some of our recommendations in this field. .
