Committee of Experts on local and
regional government institutions and co-operation (LR-IC)
New
subcommittee
Composed of governmental experts from Council of Europe member states,
the Committee was set up in 2009 to take over the remit of the former LR-GI
committee. , The latter already covered ing both institutional matters
and issues of transfrontier cooperation, the new Committee’s name brings
the area of work out more clearly.. The new LR-IC committee integrates a
set of new working methods and tools into its portfolio such as the
“workshop approach” as a specific form of exchange used for further
examining issues of regional self-government and the development and
testing of a new analytical tool concerning the degree of freedom of
action of local authorities in Europe.
Further activities of the Committee in 2009 will also include the
identification of topics and issues, firstly with regard to their
inclusion in a possible additional protocol to the European Charter of
Local Self-Government (ECLSG), secondly with regard to discussing them
at the next ministerial session of Utrecht 2009 and including them into
the new CDLR and sub-committee work programme from 2010 onwards.
