Committee of Experts on local and regional government institutions and co-operation (LR-IC)

New subcommittee

Composed of governmental experts from Council of Europe member states, the Committee was set up in 2009 to take over the remit of the former LR-GI committee. , The latter already covered ing both institutional matters and issues of transfrontier cooperation, the new Committee’s name brings the area of work out more clearly.. The new LR-IC committee integrates a set of new working methods and tools into its portfolio such as the “workshop approach” as a specific form of exchange used for further examining issues of regional self-government and the development and testing of a new analytical tool concerning the degree of freedom of action of local authorities in Europe.

Further activities of the Committee in 2009 will also include the identification of topics and issues, firstly with regard to their inclusion in a possible additional protocol to the European Charter of Local Self-Government (ECLSG), secondly with regard to discussing them at the next ministerial session of Utrecht 2009 and including them into the new CDLR and sub-committee work programme from 2010 onwards.
