Local and Regional Democracy and Good Governance

Committee of Experts on local and regional government institutions and co-operation (LR-IC)

Subcommittee

Composed of governmental experts from Council of Europe member states, the Committee was set up in 2009 to take over the remit of the former LR-GI committee. The latter had already covered  both institutional matters and issues of transfrontier cooperation, and the new Committee’s name brought the area of work out more clearly. The new LR-IC committee integrated a set of new working methods and tools into its portfolio such as the “workshop approach” as a specific form of exchange used for further examining issues of regional self-government and the development and testing of a new analytical tool concerning the degree of freedom of action of local authorities in Europe. This Committee's terms of reference were discontinued in 2012.
