 The first event in the IMC series took place from 10-13 June 2008, in Peccioli, Italy, for the countries with relevant experiences and the political will to implement inter-municipal co-operation (IMC). These included Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia and “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”. The workshop helped participants and organisers:

 Develop a better understanding of IMC shortcomings and what can be done to improve collaboration between communities in SEE countries;
 Raise awareness on practical issues at stake in SEE countries;
 Encourage country initiatives;
 Discuss the preparation and implementation of a toolkit for capacity building in SEE countries based on existing documents.
