First meeting on young voters' awareness raising about the role of the electoral process in a democratic system in the framework of the Eastern Partnership Facility
Chisinau, 13-14 February 2012
On 13-14 February 2012, representatives of the Ministries of education and civil society from the EaP countries took part in a meeting held in Chisinau (Republic of Moldova) devoted to young voters’ awareness raising about the electoral process in a democratic system. The aim of the meeting was to exchange experiences on teaching about the role of elections in democracy. Council of Europe experts on young voters’ education and elections contributed to the discussion and presented different approaches to the subject. The representative of the European Union Delegation in Chisinau as well as the members of the Council of Europe Secretariat, including from the Head of the Chisinau Office, attended the event.
The workshop was an excellent occasion for the representatives of the Ministries of education and non-governmental organisations to meet and exchange views on this subject. All participants agreed that this meeting was an opportunity to build new bridges for the future co-operation. NGOs representatives expressed their readiness and willingness to participate in a training process of trainers which will train teachers in the future.
Participation of women in public life - first meeting within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Facility
Tbilisi, 7-8 February 2012
On 7-8 February 2012, female parliamentarians and civil society representatives from the EaP countries gathered in Tbilisi to discuss the role of gender in elections, political parties and media, and to exchange experiences on reconciling professional and family lives. Council of Europe experts on gender issues and on elections, including from the Venice Commission, contributed to the discussions. Members of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe coming from Strasbourg and from the CoE Office in Tbilisi, the European Union Delegation in Tbilisi (the Deputy Head), a representative from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (the Head of the Turkish Delegation to the PACE), and representatives from the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, also attended this event.
The seminar was a unique occasion for female parliamentarians and representatives of the civil society to meet and exchange views on common challenges they face in the public life.
A workshop was held in Chisinau, Moldova on 5-6 September 2011 to discuss the organisation of voters' awareness-raising activities in Eastern Partnership countries. This workshop is the second event of the elections component of the Council of Europe Eastern Partnership Facility, an EU-funded project designed to enhance compliance with European standards and strengthen co-operation at regional level in elections matters.
Further activities under this component will address the training of the electoral administration and the development of domestic election observation by NGOs.
Un atelier a eu lieu à Chisinau, Moldova, les 5 et 6 septembre 2011 pour discuter l'organisation d'activités d’information des électeurs dans les pays bénéficiaires du partenariat oriental. Cet atelier est le deuxième événement de la composante électorale de la « facilité » Conseil de l’Europe du Partenariat oriental, un projet financé par l'Union européenne, destiné à promouvoir le respect des normes européennes et à renforcer la coopération au niveau régional en matière d’élections.
D'autres activités de cette composante porteront sur la formation de l'administration électorale et le développement de l'observation des élections> par des ONG nationales.
