triangle Visitors' reception

Internal and external visitors will be received only by appointment and between 9 am and 12 am on Council of Europe working days. The archives cannot be consulted outside these hours.

Minimal service
Owing to a temporary reduction in staff, it will not be possible to receive any visitors, and
requests from users outside the Council of Europe are not processed.
This measure is valid until a return to full service is possible.
This will be communicated on this website.

In order to offer a quality service to users, external visitors should send their request for an appointment at least two weeks before the date on which they wish to visit. The request should be transmitted by e-mail to and should set out the purpose of the research, the subject, the period concerned and a list of the documents or files to be used.

Staff of the Council of Europe should use the Multiservice Assistant for their enquiries.

All users are urged to check that electronic versions of the documents they wish to see are not provided on line, from the available tools and databases:

- Search and indexing tools
- Online Council of Europe documents – directory of links

The conditions for using the Archives are described in the Rules of the Council of Europe Archives Helpdesk for further information. For any quotation or reproduction, this document indicates how to formulate the source through examples.
