Summer University of the CDEJ

Presentation of the University

Aim of the Summer University

To provide members of the CDEJ and Advisory Council (notably new members) with a learning experience, which is likely to improve their motivation and capacity to actively participate in the work of the Council of Europe youth sector, notably in its co-management structures.


To improve knowledge and understanding of European youth policy,
To be further acquainted with the values, objectives, programmes and structures of the Council of Europe’s youth sector, including in relation to the European Union’s youth policy and programmes;
To learn about the reality of youth, youth policy and youth work in the host country;
To exchange knowledge and views about the current priority issues of the Council of Europe’s youth sector.

Practical information

Venue: the Summer University will take place in the city of Košice in the Slovak Republic. The address and contact details of the venue will be communicated in due time.

Dates: The Summer University as such will start on Tuesday, 20th August and finish on Thursday 22nd August 2013. The participants are expected to arrive on the 19th and depart on the 23rd. However, participants who wish to attend the information day on the Council of Europe youth sector (Monday 19th August 2013) are invited to arrive on the 18th.

Financial arrangements: travel expenses of participants will be reimbursed by the Council of Europe after the training session, according to the current rules. Board and lodging as well as local transport and cultural programme will be generously offered by the host country.


The draft programme of the Summer University is included in this document. Some elements of this programme will be clarified at a later stage. It should be noted that, due to budgetary restrictions, the working language for the Summer University will be English.


The list of countries for which visas are required will be indicated at a later stage in due time.

1 The whole Monday is meant to be an introductory session, prior to the Summer University as such, for the intention of those participants of the Summer University who are not yet familiar with the Council of Europe and its work in the youth field, notably the new members of the statutory bodies (if any).
