23 April 2014 - European Youth Centre, Strasbourg
On 23 April, a seminar on “Children at the Centre of Education” was held in Strasbourg.
The seminar included presentations by prominent thinkers, practical examples on the latest trends and creative approaches, and a round table discussion.
The conclusions of the seminar will help to inform and inspire future action in this area, and will be a contribution to the implementation of the Council of Europe Charter on Citizenship and Human Rights Education, and in particular Article 13: Skills for promoting social cohesion, valuing diversity and handling differences and conflict.
The Janusz Korczak seminars are organised by the Council of Europe and the Polish Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe with a view to stimulate debate on current challenges in the area of education for democracy, while honouring the legacy of Janusz Korczak - an outstanding Polish and European personality.
The first seminar was organised on 28 November 2012, at the margins of the Conference on “Human Rights and Democracy in Action - Looking Ahead: The impact of the Council of Europe Charter on Citizenship and Human Rights Education”.
The 2nd edition took place at the margins of the Conference on “The professional image and ethos of teachers” (24-25 April 2014).
