On 25 April 2012, a questionnaire on the implementation of the Council of Europe Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education [Recommendation CM/Rec(2010)7] was addressed to the 47 Council of Europe member states. The aim of the questionnaire is to collect information on the latest developments in the member states in the field of citizenship and human rights education, to facilitate exchange of good practice and to help identify priorities for future co-operation.
The member states are invited to complete the questionnaire in consultation with national human rights structures and civil society organisations. Based on the replies from the governments, it is foreseen to prepare a report, which will serve as a basis for discussion at the Conference on “Human Rights and Democracy in Action - Looking Ahead: The impact of the Council of Europe Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education”. The Conference will bring together about 200 participants, including government representatives, international institutions, civil society organisations and education professionals, and will be organised in co-operation with the European Commission and the European Wergeland Centre (Strasbourg, 29-30 November 2012).
The Charter was adopted on 11 May 2010 by the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and representatives of the 47 Council of Europe member states at the 120th Session of the Committee of Ministers. The Charter is an important reference point for all of Europe and provides the basis for the Council of Europe’s work in this field.
