Acropolis Museum, Athens, GreeceA major conference entitled “Heritage First! Towards a Common Approach for a Sustainable Europe” is being organised by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports in the framework of the Greek EU Presidency Conference. The event will be held at the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens on 6 March 2014 and at the Acropolis Museum, Athens on 7-8 March 2014. The aim of the conference is to discuss the link between cultural heritage and sustainable development.

 

Claudia Luciani, Director of Democratic Governance and Gianluca Silvestrini, Head of the Managing Diversity Division, will both speak at the Conference. They will present the Council of Europe’s approach and activities to promote democratic participation, management of diversity and socio-economic development based on heritage resources. They will also contribute to linking theoretical debate with examples of the Council of Europe’s good practice, to demonstrate the key role of cultural heritage in delivering sustainable development objectives.
