I have contributed work to a range of media from print and online journalism to radio and television over a 25 years period - www.philmacgiollabhain.ie - The exchange programme would enable me to cover cultural sport stories from other countries, in return I can offer my knowledge and experience of Irish football and of anti-Irish racism in Scotland. I would like to produce a comparative piece on how online journalism can be used to tackle racism in football. I am particularly interested in Spanish football and how ethnic/regional issues are acted out within the sport there. I am quite flexible to take part in an exchange. Looking for a blogger or online journalist to produce an intercultural sports feature on the racism in football.

I would ideally like to be working for or with a world renowned sporting brand/club and look into depth how the structure and makeup of the club is like. It might be interesting to perhaps draw a comparative analysis with another association or club. I would also like to speak to as many people from ethnic minorities at the club/organisation to draw their experiences and convey all this in a radio package/feature(s) or documentary.

I am available to take participate from January 2011 onwards but of course I would require advance notice.

Here in Austria I have contact to an antiracist football fanclub - they are also producing radio and TV shows at local community media. I would rather travel somewhere, were I could cover a topic that is not related to football, but to other, less popular sports. Another option would be to report something related to minorities in winter sports in other countries. The idea came to me when I interviewed someone about the european seminar “Involving Young Migrants in Winter Sports”, which took place on January 12th 2012, one day before the Youth Olympic Winter Games (YOG) started in Innsbruck, Austria.

Our organization is fighting against discrimination and racism towards its members and need a voice to speak loud about the racism and discrimination which most of the members are victim of. We need our communication department to get experience from the others and learn more because we have the idea to start a community or web radio and TV to speak for minorities and discriminated people. Our members do not have a voice in the society here.

As a journalist, I expect all my work to be of a high standard, as well as being informative, and entertaining at the same time. If successful with this placement, I would expect whatever I produce for MARS to be of the same nature, with a higher emphasis on diversity as an angle of media coverage. I believe my writing, speaking and reading skills are of an excellent standard in English and I hope to convey this, not only when I am abroad working, but also when hosting.

Currently I am an apprentice at "neues deutschland" a german daily newspaper. I worked for a german listing magazine based in Berlin and a local british magazine before. I'd like to participate in the MARS Programme because Europe for me is more than just the monetary union we are trying to keep up right now. Europe connects people and sport is the most unconditional way to exchange ideas and views. I played football myself when I was little. As a girl that was not the most sufficient sports to choose but as we had a tournament in Sweden I discovered that there are more girls all over the world, facing the same poblems. It was just about football not about who you are...

I'd like to write about women's football in one of the member states of the European Union. I prefer countries in which women's football is not as common as it is in Germany, my focus is basically on Eastern Europe. I'd like to write a series of portraits about women playing football and what it means to them, with which problems they have to cope, how supportive their families are, to give just a few examples. As I am also a semi professional photographer I'd like to shoot a series of pictures as well, goingt to be published at the newspaper I am working for or my personal blog.

Indicated time for my project is from mid september till the end of october (besides 29th Sep. till 15 Oct.)
