Coordinated by the Heritage Council, the main aim of National Heritage Week is to build awareness of Irelands built, natural and cultural heritage to encourage its conservation and preservation. Each year over 1000 events take place, all of which help to promote Ireland’s rich and diverse heritage. Events range from historic building open days, medieval fairs, wildlife walks, horticultural workshops, lectures on every topic, to classical music and poetry recitals, traditional music sessions, storytelling, archaeological digs, historical re-enactments and traditional skills workshops. There’s something for everyone and all ages and interests are catered for.
