14 -22 March 2009 - Europe Against Discrimination

From 14 to 22 March, non-governmental-organisations from across Europe take part in an Action Week Against Racism, to celebrate diversity and promote solidarity, equality and tolerance.

International festivals, conferences, demonstrations and workshops feature in the week-long programme of events which focuses attention on the Europe-wide campaign against discrimination.

The General Assembly of the United Nations declared 21 March as 'International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.’ This followed the murder of 69 anti-Apartheid demonstrators in Sharpeville, South Africa, on the same date in 1960.
