Publication of
the handbook for lawyers defending Roma and Travellers
The Council of Europe's Roma and Travellers Division is
delighted to announce the publication of the handbook for lawyers defending Roma
and Travellers communities "Ensuring access to rights for Roma and Travellers
- The role of the European Court of Human Rights".
This handbook is based on the experience gained during the training sessions for
lawyers organised over the last 13 years by the Council of Europe in cooperation
with the European Roma Rights Center and its practical approach makes it a
useful tool for both newcomers to the Convention and for experienced
practitioners alike.

13th Study
Session on the European Convention on Human Rights for persons providing legal
assistance to Roma and Traveller Communities
The 13th study session for persons involved in
providing legal assistance to Roma and Traveller communities, organised by the
Council of Europe's Roma and Travellers Division
and the European Roma Rights
Centre (ERRC), took place on
28 - 29 May 2009
in Strasbourg.
The study session provided participants with practical examples on how
to use the Council of Europe Human Rights Convention in defence pleadings in
favour of Roma and Traveller communities, including:
training and lectures on relevant articles and procedure of the European
Convention on Human Rights
practical information on how to submit an application to the European Court of
Human Rights
a moot trial exercise
The study session was led by judges and lawyers from Registry of the European
Court of Human Rights, ERRC lawyers and experienced external experts and was
aimed at practising lawyers defending Roma and
Travellers in any Council of Europe member state.
2nd
Study Session for persons providing legal
assistance to Roma and Traveller Communities under the collective complaints
procedure of the Revised Social Charter
The Council of Europe's
Roma and Travellers Division and Department of the
European Social Charter organised its 2nd study session for
persons involved in providing legal assistance to Roma and Traveller communities
under the collective complaints procedure of the Revised Social Charter on
19 and 20 February 2009
in Strasbourg.
The training provided participants with practical information
on how to lodge a complaint before the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR)
in order to defend Roma and Traveller communities’ social rights.
