Introduction

The objective of this activity is to provide policy-makers in member states with advice on measures to prevent elderly migrants from becoming vulnerable by promoting their independence.

The activity implements the Plan of Action of the 8th Council of Europe Conference of European Ministers responsible for Migration (Kiev, September 2008) which called on the Committee of Ministers to develop preventative measures and support services for elderly migrants to avoid, in particular, situations of vulnerability and abuse.

Outputs: (i) Recommendation to member states (ii) handbook for service providers.

Progress

  • International seminar on policies and practices concerning elderly migrants in Council of Europe member states (Brussels, 2-3 March 2009);

  • Report on policies and practices to prevent vulnerability of elderly migrants in Council of Europe member states (under preparation)
