Building a Europe for and with children

Democracy must work for children: regional seminar hosted by Albania

13.06.12 A regional seminar on child rights protection will be held in Tirana, Albania on 14 and 15 June within the context of the Year of Janusz Korzac, in commemoration of his life and work. Tirana is one of several locations chosen worldwide where prominent human rights activists and promoters will gather to discuss topics such as the protection of children from violence and abuse, juvenile justice, and the rights of particularly vulnerable children.

This seminar is organized by the Albanian government on an initiative of the Government of Poland and is supported by UNICEF and the Council of Europe. Albania currently holds the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (23 May - 9 November 2012) during which time it has pledged to uphold and promote the core values of the organisation, those of human rights and of children's rights in particular. The seminar is thus an ideal opportunity for Albania to strengthen the common European dimension of the discussion on children's rights and to promote the implementation of the Council of Europe's Strategy for the Rights of the Child 2012-2015.
