Final report on “Tacking violence in schools” to be presented at the Human Rights Council today

06.03.12 The final report of the High-Level Expert meeting on “Tackling violence in Schools” will be presented today in Geneva, during a side event at the Human Rights Council.

The report has been jointly prepared by the Council of Europe, the Office of the UN Special Representative of the Secretary General on Violence against Children and the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion and it bases on the recommendations and conclusions on the High-Level Expert meeting “Tackling violence in schools” that was held in Oslo on the 27-28 June 2011.

For the Council of Europe the joint meeting in Oslo served as an expert platform to define what further role the Council of Europe could play in addressing violence in schools via Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2012-2015) that was recently adopted by the Committee of Ministers.

The report will be presented in Geneva, at the panel discussion entitled “Protecting children from violence in school – Bridging the gap between standards and practice” organized within the framework of the debate on the Rights of the Child in the Human Rights Council, by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Violence against Children, with the support of the Government of Norway and in cooperation with the Council of Europe, Plan International and Child Helpline International.
